so here it is... a beginning to my thesis.
thesis (noun) [thee-sis]:
a proposition stated or put forward for consideration, especially one to be discussed and proved or to be maintained against objections.

| insight: what the matrix really looks like! |
i don't claim to be offering ground-breaking insight. in fact it would be disappointing if my proposition were to be much more than obvious, because it's a thesis of What It's All About... and whilst "the meaning of life the universe and everything" may not truly have an answer as simple as "42", any answer that comes close to the truth of this topic should resonate with our experience.
for many many years, I've commented things like, “it’s all
about perspective”, “it’s all about communication”, “it’s all
about…” and then at some point it occurred to me to consider which one of the handful of
things it really is all about!
i concluded that it is actually
all about all of them; the limited handful that I kept coming
back to: freedom, perspective, communication, relationship, identity. so back then in 2010, i began to explore the connections between these elements, and
their mutual importance in my (our) existence.
the first draft
here's what I wrote:
* i reckon life is all about freedom because i don't believe there's anything more precious than true freedom. and i don't believe most people find it. i reckon lots of people have given up believing in it; and lots of people have forgotten or never realised that it's what they really want. but without real freedom, life will never be everything we're looking for.
* i reckon life is all about perspective because in order to understand anything beyond ourselves, we have to learn to look (as best we can) from other views. i reckon poor perspective is responsible for most bad things (such as people pursuing the wrong things whilst intending to pursue the freedom they desire), so it's something to be sought voraciously and cherished dearly.
* i reckon life is all about relationship insofar as we are relational beings, so there's nothing more important. i reckon we often forget how precious relationships are, and we damage them when they should be getting almost all of our care and attention. I reckon they often get neglected because we have faulty perspective!
* i reckon life is all about communication insofar as communication is the way in which each of us can relate to another person, and owing to the precious nature of relationships, it's vital that we invest heavily in quality (not necessarily quantity!) of communication to ensure we have well-founded relationships.
* i reckon life is all about identity because identity is the internal driving mechanism that affects our communication, our relationships, our perspective, and our understanding of freedom. without comprehending who we are, we have little hope of knowing what to do.
